Gatwick rewards travellers who decide two things early: which terminal they are flying from, and how much walking they are willing to do at either end. Get those settled and the price falls into place. Leave both open until the morning of the flight and you will pay the premium that Gatwick reserves for late decisions.
Gatwick has two terminals connected by a shuttle, and the parking that serves each is priced independently. The shuttle ride is short, but a compound positioned for the South Terminal is not the natural choice if you are departing from the North, and the operators price accordingly. Confirm your terminal before you book rather than after, because changing it later usually means rebooking rather than amending.
Gatwick carries an enormous share of the country's leisure traffic, which means its parking demand is far more seasonal than a business heavy airport. From late June through August, and across every school half term, the cheaper compounds sell out first and the remaining stock is priced to reflect it. Six to eight weeks of notice is worth real money here.
For a week or more away, the daily rate matters more than the convenience premium, and Park and Ride around the M23 corridor is consistently the better value option. For a two or three night trip, particularly an early departure, the gap narrows to the point where Meet and Greet is worth pricing properly rather than dismissing.
Gatwick pushes a heavy wave of departures out before seven in the morning, and everything around the airport is busier for it. Allow more time than the transfer estimate suggests during that window, and factor it in when you are choosing between a compound five minutes away and one fifteen minutes away. The cheaper option is only cheaper if you still make the flight comfortably.
